Not sure if anyone said this yet but female animals often eat their period... produce to regain nutrient that was lost forcing it out. My guess is if someone has a desire to do it, they're low on something and the brain can somehow tell it's there. There's a thing where people will want to eat cigarette ash because it has something in it and the brain just knows it's there...
